Please tell me that this is just a joke: PABAAH!.
PABAAH stands for “Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood”. From what I have seen (Daily Show) and read (on the PABAAH site). I think the whole movement should be called “Supporting Bush and Mccarthyism against critiques”
Calling people that happen to disagree with W. Bush communists and attacking them like PABAAH does can’t be something to be proud of, at least not if you believe in democracy.
BTW: I actually thought the american democracy had come along to the point that “communist” wasn’t a swearword. But I guess I was wrong.
First off, it continues to amaze us that people like you are unfamiliar with SATIRE and CREATIVE editing…What a genius you are. The Daily Show is not the Gospel, it’s a comedy show.
1. Our sole purpose is to boycott those in Hollywood who have chosen to oppose AMERICA. They do not deserve our money.
2. Ed Asner is an admitted communist sympathizer. Despite his denials, he has left a long and detailed trail of evidence proving this (that’s not why he is on our list anyhow, it’s his condemnation of America and Americans that has earned him a spot)
3. The Daily Show edited their material to make it appear that is why we boycotted Elf…
4. Communism is still BAD–after all, it’s only responsible for the suffering and deaths of MILLIONS. It calls for the downfall of capitalism…duh.
5. Again, you may need to educate yourself a bit more…McCarthy helped to root our communist spies. That is a good thing.
We are private citizens, so we are allowed to speak our minds, just like the Hollywood celebs…we are speaking with our wallets.
Gimme a break. Ok, there very well may be a PABAAH organization. No big deal, there are thousands of fringe groups in America. That is what makes us so strong.
You can have outlandish ideas, or commonly held ones. Do as you want, look like a fool to some, a hero to others.
Oh, and while I love watching the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, you have to remember, it is satire and comedy with a tint of real news thrown in. I’m sure that while PABAAH may be real, they found some creative ways to poke fun at them. (It was a funny episode though!)
The liberals LOVE to carry on about McCarthy and hollywood, and it only serves as yet another example of how misinformed (or a bunch of unabashed liars, as the case may be) the left is.
McCarthy was not even involved in the hollywood blacklisting that went on in the late 40’s and early 50’s. That was the House Unamerican Activities Committee(HUAC). Please note the word HOUSE. McCarthy was not in the house, and in fact, when HUAC was conducting their hollywood investigations that the liberals would have you believe were run by McCarthy, he had just barely been elected to his Senatorial seat.
You’ll never hear a liberal squeal quite as loudly as when you accuse him of being unpatriotic, no matter how true it may be. I think Michael Moore summed up the hollywood anti-American profile best with his statement that he “sympathized with the terrorist’s goals, but that they killed the wrong Americans”, and that the destroyed rubble of the World Trade Center was “more beautiful than the building was”. This is disgusting – end of story.
Jon: Daily Show and satire you say? Not the gospel you say? Comedy show you say?
Noooo, that can’t be right. After all it is on the “Comedy channel”, surely it must be as thrust worthy as CN.. ehh.. Fo… ehh, BBC.
As to your points.
1: As far as I can judge (from outside of the PABAAH and the USA) they are not against America, but they are against the hawks and their policy. AND they agree with most of the other civilised world that there was no reason to go to war. At least not in “self defence”.
2: Please provide some proof other than your own opinions.
3: That is not how it came across to me, but PABAAH did come across as a gang of loonies. BTW: It should be no surprise that any news organisation will edit a story before it is aired. Even the fake news show “Daily Show” does that ;-)
4 and 5 only helps to prove my point, as far as I am concerned.
I admire Jon Alvarez. Not everyone is willing to risk coming accross as a complete idiot just to get on TV.
It takes a real man to risk being seen as someone with an IQ lower than George Bush.
So all you people taking shots at PABAAH, just remember, Jon stepped up while all you commie left wing wanna be hypocrites don’t have the balls to take on a commie ball licking person like Jon Stewart on his own left wing hollywood elite anti-American tripe.
Huzzah for Mr. Alvarez. A man’s man.
OMG the ability of people to buy into total idiocy and propaganda. McCarthy was a good guy in some regards? Wow, taking peoples’ constitutional protections away is okay as long as we “root out some commies.” That sounds pretty Stalinistic to me. McCarthy wasn’t involved in the blacklisting because he didn’t hold an official title in the House? That’s like saying Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t have a role in the civil rights movement because he didn’t actually sign any of the constitutional amendments. Regardless of any actual facts or information that they do manage to present, groups like Pabaah always have and always will stand for one thing, trying to make people think like they do through scare tactics instead of informed intellectual debate, which their propaganda does not even begin to stand up to even in the face of the most moderately educated sixth grader. Give me a break.
Wow. I thought this was some kind of idiotic joke. I could have sworn free speech and the right of dissent were fundamental to the American way. Apparantly that’s not the case if you’re a famous actor. BTW what do you suppose they would have said regarding the disparaging things Tom Selleck, Charlton Heston, Bruce Willis, et al said about President Clinton attacking bin Laden (remember “wag the dog” or Bosnia?). Isn’t it funny how conservative actors are supposedly so intelligent while “liberal” actors are stupid and treasonous? I thought all actors were just attention hogs for whom political thought required too much effort. Wow, I’m right.
I think the Republican types are very justified in their fear of actors. Tracing it back in history to John Wilkes Boothe. I think it is no co-incedence that Jon Stewart and John Wilkes Boothe have the same first name, except that John Wilkes Boothe didn’t use the Pansy commie crotch sniffing spelling that Jon Stewart uses.
Well Bob, it just shows off your ignorance. Jon has its origin in Hebrew, and means “gift from god”, how commie of someone to use such a name, especially when they are Jewish (as Jon is).
All it is is some Republicans that get upset whenever someone famous has a different view point than them.
What do they do to these celebrities? They call them anti-American, communists, dictator lovers etc. They have to learn that not everyone likes Bush.
I went to their message boards, and they want to boycott Terry Jones, of Monty Python, because of a few articles he wrote for newspaper that satrized Bush. Come on folks!
That said, they have the right to do whatever they want, although I highly doubt a dozen of people who boycott a movie with “anti-American, communist, dictator loving scum” in it will hurt the box office results.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder if these people would have felt the same about their own methods had others started to come after them, their work, their investments and their lifelyhood.
I don’t mind people saying what they want about whom they want, but from that to attacking peoples lifelyhood is a far stretch for me. Its almost on the same level as expressing your opinions with sticks and stones, not to mention weapons.
This PABAAH site is no joke, just more grassroots rightwing propaganda registered by Michael Walden and run by Jon Alvarez
These bozos are so against any conversation that does not follow the Bush/PNAC line of thought, they inject a trojan horse 5SW3HX0X\you[1].htm to any ip address or username that has posted any comment they don’t happen to agree with. the Trojan redirects the user to http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/you.html and runs the everpopular “you are an idiot” bouncing flash movie.
Typical neocon trash is what it is. They can’t back up any argument with facts so the method is attack, attack, attack. Jon obviously can dish out the lies and distortions but cannot handle facts and truth.
This website, and it’s creators are a large part of what is going desperately wrong with this country.
This nation was founded on dissent, and the current administration cannot survive if it allows dissent. That alone should tell you that something is fundamentally wrong with the Bush/PNAC cabal.
Truth is NOT in fashion in the White House

Jon has a very perverted notion as to the direction this nation is headed, and has been throughly blinded by the right. As evidenced by a deluge of blogs and posts on the web. A search of “jon avarez” will give you pages upon pages of hate and fear inspired nonsense. or via this link: http://www.chronwatch.com/site_search.asp?auth=108
Let’s all hope this idiot doesn’t get any outlet beyond his internet ravings, there’s more than enough of that going around now.
Mr. Alvarez is a hypocrite. Mr. Alvarez drives a foreign car. A Volkswagen to be exact. Last time I checked, Volkswagen is a German car company. Mr. Alvarez and people like him placed Germans in the same light as those in hollywood who spoke out against the war – enemy sympathizers. With a sticker price of roughly 16,000, that would be the equivalent of approximately 2,000 movie tickets… So I would ask, Why, if he is such a patriotic american, is he supporting a FOREIGN CAR COMPANY? Especially a German one?
Warning to all those out there who value logic and enlightened debate don
Please tell me what Lord Lloyd Webber’s done to get on the list. As far as I know he’s a right-wing Thatcherite who, along with others, said he’d leave Britain if Labour got in government.
Thanks. What a loada wankers they are?
jar jar bush… makes very fine points
“First off, it continues to amaze us that people like you are unfamiliar with SATIRE and CREATIVE editing…What a genius you are. The Daily Show is not the Gospel, it’s a comedy show.”
Kind of odd considering that you don’t follow the teachings of the gospel yourself. I mean if you clearly read Matthew, you will see that Jesus teaches tolerance and forgiveness. Concepts that, in spite of your claims, are foreign to you and your sheep. And if you read John, it will clearly state that you are not supposed to be patriotic. You are simply a usurper of the Bible. You use it to sheild yourself against your enemies and you use it to justify your ignorant predjudices.
“1. Our sole purpose is to boycott those in Hollywood who have chosen to oppose AMERICA. They do not deserve our money.”
Again with your contradictions. I know this is your cop out vindication when your hypocrisy is exposed. But your actions betray your words. If this were your “sole purpose” then it wouldn’t be necessary for your organization to demonize liberals not associated with Hollywood.
“2. Ed Asner is an admitted communist sympathizer. Despite his denials, he has left a long and detailed trail of evidence proving this (that’s not why he is on our list anyhow, it’s his condemnation of America and Americans that has earned him a spot)”
You always complain about how people, who hate america, should leave. This is america. We are entitled to have opinions and we are entitled to express them in any way, shape, or form (within ethical boundaries.) If you detest the fact that people have a right to speak, then maybe you should leave. “Love it or leave it” is not a democratic, let alone American, principle. It is hypocritical to parade around as a Nation promoting Free speech and independent thought while obligating people to love the country and support every action this country’s government decides to do. But hypocrisy is nothing new to you Mr. Alvarez.
“3. The Daily Show edited their material to make it appear that is why we boycotted Elf…”
Just like you eradicate posts in your “Troll’s Corner” with intelligent arguments that expose your hypocrisies while leaving the posts that make liberals seem ignorant?
“4. Communism is still BAD–after all, it’s only responsible for the suffering and deaths of MILLIONS. It calls for the downfall of capitalism…duh.”
Communism: Long-range goal is a society that provides equality and economic security for all.
Wow, I can feel the evil. It’s time for some education Mr. Alvarez. The Ideology behind any philosophy shouldn’t be blamed for the way it was used. Murderous individuals like Stalin gave lip-service to communism. No where in the definition of communism does it say that the people will be subjected to genocide. It’s like saying christianity is evil simply because it’s authoritors were responsible for the deaths of many (Remember the Crusades? Salem Witch Trials?) Your short sighted view of the world is a direct result of American Propaganda. I mean, after all, no one wants economic equality (sarcasm). Although the concepts of Communism will fail horribly, even if executed correctly, it doesn’t mean that communism in itself is a bad idea. Just an inept one. Oh, and I just adore that very intellectual “duh.”
“5. Again, you may need to educate yourself a bit more…McCarthy helped to root our communist spies. That is a good thing.”
Again, you need to educate yourself. McCarthy did help root our communist spies…at the cost of people who were entirely innocent. Out of the numerous individuals who were blacklisted, only a couple were communist commiserators. That’s a bad thing.
“We are private citizens, so we are allowed to speak our minds, just like the Hollywood celebs…we are speaking with our wallets.”
Yes, you are allowed to speak your minds. But that doesn’t mean you are exempt from hypocrisy or false testimony.
Boycot who you will.
It’s just the slander I’ve seen on the site that anoys me. And the fact that the site allows NO ONE to comment about it.
You will be instantly banned if you dissagree or attempt to question anyone on the boycot list.
