Google Mail cranking up the invites

google-invite.gifGoogle Mail changed their interface for invitations some time ago, and now its apparent why: Most, if not every, Google Mail user now has 50 invites to give away!

The question now is if this is a prelude to opening Google Mail up for anyone to register. It might be that Google will continue only allowing new users by invite, there are some obvious advantages to being able to control just how many new users enter the system, and the trail back to who invited them. The trail could possibly make it easier for Google to close spammer accounts.

Oh, and while I remember: If you need an invite, leave your name and e-mail address in the comments section.

  1. Dave leave your email next time silly… there are lots of people floating around with 50 signups to toss out…

  2. Dave, its in the mail.

Kevin: As long as people fill in the e-mail field when leaving comments I will get it – I just don’t display peoples e-mail addresses on my blog – that way people don’t have to worry about them being picked up by spam-bots here..

  3. I have sent out invitations to everyone. New invitations is avilable in aboundance, so I am guessing they should be pretty easy to get by this point.

In any case, if you want one – let me know.

  9. If you’ve got any intvites left could you toss one this way, thanks. How is Gmail compared to the other webmail services?

  10. Sean, Gmail is _the_ best webmail service I have ever used. I don’t claim to know them all, but I doubt you will find a service with a system that is so user friendly and with that amount of storage for a price that can compare.

BTW: The ads that support Gmail isn’t very intrusive either, most of the time I just ignore them, to tell you the truth. Other times I find it funny what kind of ads pop up in relation to the e-mails I read. (They use the same kind of content based ads delivery system that they use on sites such as this one).

BTW: Sean, the e-mail address you left behind didnt work.

  11. I am fed up with hotmail after blocking POP3 service. Gmail may be the way to go. I am curious to see what everyone is talking about. If someone has an invite they can send my way I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

  20. I’d be very grateful if you could send along a Gmail invite. Not too many folk over here in China have one to pass along (until they figure out a way to counterfeit it).
